Ms. Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger

 

Ambassador Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger has been serving as Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations Office at Geneva since December 2017.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, from 2007 to 2017, Ms. Tichy-Fisslberger served as Director General for Legal and Consular Affairs at the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Tichy-Fisslberger joined the Austrian diplomatic service in 1988 and has a long record of working in various areas of European affairs. Before joining the Austrian diplomatic service, she has worked for the European Commission in Brussels. Foreign postings included Dublin, London and a long spell in Brussels. Ambassador Tichy-Fisslberger has been the first Austrian National Coordinator on Combatting Human Trafficking as well as President of the Austrian Task Force on Combatting Human Trafficking since 2009. Since 2002 she has been a lecturer at the University of Vienna and from 2006 onwards also at the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna.

Ambassador Tichy-Fisslberger holds degrees from the University of Vienna in Law and Languages (French, Spanish). She is also fluent in English and Italian.

Rita French
Rita is the Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and International Ambassador for Human Rights. Rita’s appointment was announced in May 2019, a first for the UK. Rita began her career in the Civil Service as an economist advising on tobacco and alcohol taxation at HM Revenue and Customs. She moved into a number of policy roles at HM Treasury including advising on environmental policy, local government, enterprise policy, and worked on a joint review with the Department for Transport on developing a strategy for transport investment. She also worked in the private office of the then Chancellor of the Exchequer as his speech writer. Rita was Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Culture working with the department to oversee delivery of the London 2012 Olympics. In her last role, Rita was Director for Media and was Senior Responsible Officer for the BBC and Ofcom where she chaired a number of senior Board appointments. She coordinated the government?s response to the Leveson phone-hacking inquiry and delivered an ambitious change programme for Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Ms. Nazhat Shameem Khan

Ambassador Nazhat Shameem Khan was appointed to Fiji’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, when it first opened in April 2014.

Ms. Khan was appointed Fiji’s Director of Public Prosecutions in 1994, the first woman in Fiji to hold that post. In 1999, she was appointed Fiji`s first woman High Court judge, a position she held until 2009. While holding judicial office, she delivered a number of human rights decisions. As a private practitioner from 2009 to 2014, she conducted legal and corporate training for lawyers, judges, and the business community on human rights, corporate and good governance, and law and procedure.

Since her appointment as Permanent Representative, Ms. Khan has supported the work of the Trust Fund for small island developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in working toward universal representation of all countries in the Human Rights Council.

Ms. Khan also co-chaired the technology stream of the Human Rights Council’s efficiency process in 2018. She is a strong advocate for more Pacific Islands and SIDS to become members of the Human Rights Council to making it more inclusive and representative.
