The History of The UNCOS “Pagan” Hekate Memorial Los Angeles.

The History of The UNCOS “Pagan” Hekate Memorial Los Angeles 40+ years ago. The internationally recognized original UNCOS Hekate Memorial Los Angeles (@the_hekate) started as the Ukrainian National Holocaust Memorial Church Coalition Los Angeles and San Francisco. (a Pagan led United States of America Council) in exile under the USSR over 40- 50 years ago. This was done to represent the living survivors and the remnants of the Ukrainian and other national holocaust resistance shrines, sanctuaries, churches,  the living and the dead in World War Two. The ancient Hekate sanctuary was chosen as the temple because it was perhaps older than the Titans (3–5000 BCE)

This was only 15-20 years after World War II when Greek Orthodox, Alexandrian Coptic, Russian Orthodox and people of the Jewish faith as well as a few other religions and organizations got together and decided that they should meet together to talk about inter-church issues. Due to the fact that in the Soviet Union the only religion was the state everyone agreed that the Church to head it up was the pagan church council. This was a LA and San Francisco Church Coalition or Council that was based loosely on supporting holocaust families in Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as social and cultural support in general. The “un named pagan church” (the name always changed for security reasons or it was called “the church with no name”) (*) was chosen to head it as it was recognizably famous and seemingly atheist or without god—they were the religion neutral national resistance church. It was organized and headed by a famous author and his family as well as other families across the United States of America. They had a newsletter and it was safe to meet with them in public without physical danger from the terrorists. (White supremacists, Racists and Nazi’s)

They represented the resistance not the terror, and would not totally trust the “other christians” ever again.

Catholic involvement was only with the California Mission System San Gabriel not the archdiocese, they did coordinate during the LA Riots, and afterwards asked for advice in special circumstances. The San Gabriel Mission is the base from which the pueblo became the city of Los Angeles. Land rights flow from the indigenous population through the mission system, Spanish colonial rule, mexico and finally the United States of America. It was and is impossible for the Catholics in California to not recognize the LACOS or UNCOS. Title to land ownership and recognizing international canon law is the issue. Los Angeles became a international city with multiple consulates due to everyone’s efforts at understanding and implementing the social program messages. (1)

The Ukraine was chosen to be the Non-Jewish Los Angeles memorial because in addition to the 1 million Jewish people, 3 million more civilians who might have practiced a dual belief system (2) were murdered systematically in the Nazi final solution during the years 1941 to 1943. Two million people were executed a year in addition to the civilian and military war dead. The Nazi’s stated written objective was wholesale population reduction in the occupied areas. The Ukraine general population was supposed to be reduced 60% by special groups of executioners the Einsatzgruppen, the Order Police battalions, and local Nazi collaborators. According to the Nazi records they achieved greater than a 50% reduction in two years.

With the loss of over half of the countries population to killings by Germans —the majority of them who were christian on both sides of the killing— everyone realized that perhaps preserving and reconstructing the original indigenous religions to demonstrate the common elements of culture across borders was a national consideration for multiple nations in Europe and around the world. These days I am heartened by Egypt spending money on preserving it’s Jewish Heritage sites especially in Alexandria. (Link 2) Why not, it’s a non-christian heritage site and the Egyptian government and the people are making a real cultural effort gesture on behalf of visitors from around the world. Someday maybe UNESCO will spend money on pagan sites as well. Turkish Universities are going to commence another archaeological dig at Hekate’s sanctuary in Anatolia Turkey very soon also. Things are moving forward again.

People were looking for answers to why it happened. How did the mass murder happen. Was it a disease? Was the answer lying dormant in some esoteric or “occulted or occluded” regional religion? What were the Nazi’s really after? What made them believe in Hitler? 40 million of them were Protestant 20 million were Catholic Christians in 1933. A full two thirds + (85%) of them were christians 60 million Germans out of 70 million in 1940. (rough numbers) Think about that for a minute, why would those Christians do that to other Christians. The majority of the people killing Christians were “the other” Christians.

That is not the total loss of people in the Ukraine during WWII, these are the numbers for 1941 through 1943 from Nazi German records:
The population of the Reichskommissariat Ukraine taken by census was 37,000,000 in 1941 and 16,910,008 in 1943 for a total of 20.1 million people killed. The Soviet census of just the Ukraine in 1939 was 30.96 million. We have no census data following the war. The German administrative district included adjacent areas of Belarus and the Second Polish Republic.

From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine:
The general demographic loss of Ukraine including those killed; deported, evacuated, the victims of concentration camps, and those who went into exile along with the retreating Nazis add up to at least 14 million people. This is the greatest single loss compared with the losses of other countries and nations in World War II. The USSR lost about 26.6 million lives in World War II. In comparison, the total losses in Germany were about 6 million. In fact, the total Ukrainian losses likely vary between 40 to 44 percent of the total casualties of the USSR.

Notes:

(1) Safe Passage, Sanctuary and Safe Surrender were the official social program messages and were directly based on the Ukrainian holocaust experiences. Today they are publicly slightly different than the original program messages. One example is this statement: Police can not enter churches <–this was the original issue in the United States of America especially in California where secularization (taking church land) of the Catholic mission lands by Mexico was the original issue. Freedom of Religion and the Separation of Church and State means that the police cannot raid or drag people out of church for civil law enforcement actions.

(2) Dual belief system refers to a practice of having two  belief systems.
The official church of the state. Usually this was what the King practiced or what kind of prayers were said at state functions (if any)
The private religion your family practices i.e., which god or goddess your house follows. Which is your home temple was a usual  question.

Wikipedia sheds some light on the twin faith issue here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_paganism

The Christianisation of the Slavic peoples was, however, a slow and—in many cases—superficial phenomenon, especially in what is today Russia. Christianisation was vigorous in western and central parts of what is today Ukraine, as they were closer to the capital Kiev, but even there, popular resistance led by volkhvs, pagan priests or shamans, recurred periodically for centuries.[2] Even though the Byzantine Christianization firstly has slowed down the Eastern Slavic traditions in Rus’, it has preserved the Slavic traditions in the long term. While local Slavic figures and myths, such as Baba Roga in Croatia were forgotten,[4] Slavic culture continued to exist and even flourish in the Eastern Slavic countries. In the case of a Christian Latinization of the Eastern Slavic countries, this may not have been the case.

The Hekate in an Indigenous World

The United Nations defines indigenous peoples as:

Indigenous peoples are inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Please read the UN Declaration.

The Hekate Sanctuary and Shrine of The Crossroads (Hekate Aphrodite, Hecate Venus) was dedicated by the [un named] council of the indigenous world religions called The Church of Opposition. [église d’opposition, церква опозиції opozytsiyna tserkva, Oppositionskirche, Εκκλησία της αντιπολίτευσης,] The council represented the indigenous and ancient first religions to members and other organizations. Currently the indigenous and ancient religions are named as the Pagan, Neo-Pagan and Wicca religions in the United States. This was the religious organization that started recognizing the legitimacy of the world’s indigenous religions in the United States as well as fighting for the religious civil rights of safe passage, safe sanctuary and safe surrender in California 70+ years ago. (1)

It was dedicated in the year 2000 to the memory of all of our ancestors who perished in the two world wars. Hekate is the Anatolian Greek Goddess of Magic Spirit Protection at The Crossroads for all peoples as well as for travelers. Aphrodite represents love and the Roman goddess Venus represents love, woman ancestress. This sanctuary and wayside shrine is “technically” Anatolian Hekate: Aphrodite or Anatolian Hekate: Venus. In popular translation it is the witch sanctuary and shrine of the magic spirit protection and woman ancestress love goddesses. If you practice your ancient indigenous religions—even if it is only for cultural purposes—it helps to realize that you are participating in honoring your ancestors and the homelands you came from. You have indigenous rights as a people, even if there are no borders or lines on a map saying you belong “there”.

Hague conventions apply worldwide including Rule 38 attacks against cultural property. Temple/Shrine members and keepers qualify as religious personnel protected  Under Geneva Convention II Additional protocol I Article 15(5) and Additional Protocol II Article 9(1)  and Section 9.4 of the 1999 UN Secretary-General’s Bulletin wherever they go. This also includes the participants and the un-named church who dedicated it and participated in the opening ceremonies. US federal government recognition of the pagan religions: including classicalneo-classical and modern paganism are available from the  Faith-and-Belief-Codes-for-Reporting-Personnel-Data-of-Service-Members-ocr  Link to the DOD Source  This took effect on March 31, 2017.

We were called the Gypsy Pagan(s) Church Group by Americans in Southern California in the 1970’s. We did not know it was considered to be a pejorative term by older generations only what our parents taught us. They said we could have a travelling shrine or travelling memorial. They did not understand the concepts of indigenous rights. For more information about who created the shrine and who is who please click this link

The Dead Religions

The Dead Religions

Help I got attacked by the plastic menorah christians and now I have to get rid of the words “Gypsy” and maybe “Pagan”.

I forgot the first rule in my life is to always ask:
Are you a Nazi? Are you a Nazi sympathizer? Are you a White Nationalist or a White Supremacist? Yes or No please,.. because if you self identify with being a Nazi or protest with those people we can’t be friends and either you or your friends tried to kill me when I was a child.

Just remember to always ask if you are in doubt: are you prejudiced or racist? If they say yes, then just walk away if you can. I am personally prejudiced against Nazi’s and White Nationalists (just add the two words) and White Supremacists due to what happened to me as a child. I know I am prejudiced against them but Nazi’s still exist in today’s world. I have had my life derailed and been messed up by them again because they are so subtle. I forgot the LA origins of the words to this domain name. This post will explain it to you.

Sometimes there is hidden racism in ordinary words we use, and sometimes the definition changes over time. The impact of the U.S.A.’s cultural usage of words is large. When we express culture through creativity we need to think about the impact of our creative statements. Especially if it involves a indigenous word or image.

Just ask first.

I lost years of my life because some people that were in my life are prejudiced or white supremacists. 73 people were killed by them in 12 days over Halloween in 2018 in the United States of America.

They are not cool to me.

— once again—

Back to writing my book.

One of CoS Socal’s jobs diplomatically was to provide a cultural context to the ancient peoples first religions. For example the Hekate sanctuary in Anatolia Turkey had a lineage that we thought was like this: We heard from Greek people [in person] that the original district was Caria and the first people were the Carians. They should have been the aboriginal or indigenous first people of the area. They had two ancient temples connected by a 11 km roadway or a ceremonial path. One of the sites was partially buried by a coal mine and was next to a power plant in a remote industrial district. All you could see were some blocks and a stone gateway. Little was known to us 50-70 years ago. Was there was any connection with the ancient Carian people? Did the Goddess Hekate originate only from ancient Greece or did it have an Alexandrian connection we did not know about, indeed was there evidence of a Pashtun connection? We had to wait.

We did know that all over the area people worshipped a triple goddess named Hekate.  You were supposed to ask her which way to go.  Zeus was holding a little triple statue in his right hand—why—who were her people? Culturally it mattered to her people, whoever they were and with the massive displacements of populations during the War’s you could not be totally sure about who she belonged to. So in conjunction with and the cooperation of a number of new and old states in the old world we took care of her for those that were her people. We did not know that the plastic people that were promoting that type of a connection to justify their own actions were paying lip service and using what were in fact racist words. We were just children at the time so we left it up to the spirit that we felt when we were together. Each of us went our separate ways but in the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s the pressure for change and the fears of VietNam and the Cold War were everywhere. There were riots all over the country. We could see the smoke from LA at our house. We heard the fire engines leaving for downtown 20 minutes away. It was only 15-20 years prior to that —less than 1 generation before— when everything exploded and  millions and millions of people were dead.

We heard the veterans in the middle of the night, trying to talk back their demons, and come back to life in a world they did not understand. We saw them. We heard the other victims of the wars too. We saw them too. We did not understand why we could not play together, but we talked over walls and fences and on the phone.

Always and Forever The War.
We knew that we were going to die in the draft. Think about that for a moment. If you are in the U.S.A. and age 40 and under. How would you like to have a child that you knew had a good chance of dying in a war. We don’t have that perspective any more but in some places in the rest of the world they still do. In the 1920’s we had a big war, In the 1940’s we had a huge war, in the 1950’s a war with the east, In the 1960’s we had another one on TV. In the 1970’s it was to become the longest war. They tested the atomic  bombs in the deserts to the east.

We used to call each other at night and after school. Can you see the forest fires? Are you OK? Did you get hit at school again? You couldn’t see them, they hit you at the drinking fountain to keep you away from the water. How come you can’t walk down the street without paying money? Then people left you change on the fence for school lunch. That’s what they said it was for. Then they told us that there’s water running over there from the hose why don’t you go ask the gardeners to give you some water? It was organized and the staff knew. How did we know who was responsible? They never called the police department, that’s how we knew.

Always and Forever The War.
Maybe it was because the ghosts were not buried the right way. There were a lot of ghosts. With 60 million dead+ in WWII and so much widespread destruction we urgently felt that we needed to preserve as much as possible the original cultural sites and original gods and goddesses for a couple of really good reasons:

If a religion died out and all its members were dead after the war we lost more than just the people, we lost their memories about what they were taught about the mysteries of the ancient times. We lost the answers to how the horror happened. We lost the answers to the cruelty and selfishness we were experiencing. If you could prove by archaeology and ethnography that a religion existed there, but all the people were killed off, we had a chance to preserve or at least stand in for the dead. Where was our memorial? Where was our sanctuary?

What if The Gods and Goddesses left forever or went to sleep never to awaken again? Nobody knew but you can bet people were thinking very hard about the failure of  christianity that led to a total catastrophe. Obviously something went wrong with christianity and evil reigned. So we turned to death at first, searching for a answer as to why the devastation continued to devour, surely the Jesus God would have stopped it. Why was this evil so different? The answer seemed to lie in a ancient Babylonian deity or the archangel called Samael, the angel of death and temptation. Without the temptation in the deity there would have been a natural stopping point when so many people had died. Were they worshipping it in secret? Worshipping death? It was on their hats. Maybe the answer lay in Egypt?

The christians must have made a mistake. There must have been another force that combined with the death god that gave it momentum. How many tines were there on the menorah? Planets or days? How come the Christians used it too? What about the plastic ones with the lightbulbs for decoration are they real? How do you get the spirits of the planets into the menorah? How come they call us the gypsy pagan church? Why do they hunt the Witches? What’s the black cube for? What did it mean the fall of the Shah to the people wearing black? Why was the U.S.A. so powerful with so many light bulbs, all lit by the bomb? Surely that was the power of the star’s at night. Was that the evidence that God with the big G was on America’s side? What about Russia and the Ukrainians)? Where were all the people going to go once they shut the gates? They obviously had the power of the stars at night too, maybe the answer was there is no god, it’s only us here together on the planet.

So in conjunction with several national churches we said we would stand in for the people that were lost and would give the religions back to their rightful peoples when they asked for it. Absolutely it was a symbolic gesture and we were incredibly naive about it a long time ago,… Once again, we did not know it, but they thought they were excluding us with this gift. Here they said, you are responsible for all these ancient religions. The hippies, the gypsies, the pagans are your problem, If something happens with them it’s your fault. Literally community leaders in Los Angeles said that to us. The man was famous and drew crowds in LA.

But the wheel in the sky turned on and eventually the whole world caught up. People all around the world never forgot, except in California where we dreamed our own reality.

It is the Romans in Rome, the Greeks in Greece, Indians in India, Japanese in Japan,.. and the,.. Chinese in China, Russians in Russia, Ukrainians in the Ukraine and the free peoples of the sands. The people in the forests and the people on the plains, the people in the fjords and people in the streams. We dreamed our own dreams and believed in the simplest things.

We threw it all away and started it up all over again, performed every ritual, enacted every ancient play, and slowly the magic worked and it took over 50 years to this day.

All we all we are is us.
